Its practice involves rapid changes of direction, accelerations, braking, trunk rotations, and repeated overhead upper limb movements.<\/p>\n<p>These demands make the game physically intense and can increase the risk of injury, particularly when there is insufficient physical preparation, a rapid increase in training load, accumulated fatigue, inadequate recovery, or difficulty in the technical execution of movements.<\/p>\n<p>Physiotherapy can play a significant role in functional recovery after an injury associated with padel, in symptom management, and in reducing the risk of recurrence.<\/p>\n<h4>The most frequent injuries in padel are:<\/h4>\n<p>The regions most frequently affected in padel include the elbow, shoulder, wrist, ankle, knee, lower back, and the muscles of the leg and thigh.<\/p>\n<p>Among the most common conditions are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lateral epicondylalgia, often known as tennis elbow<\/li>\n<li>Shoulder tendinopathies<\/li>\n<li>Ankle sprains<\/li>\n<li>Knee pain<\/li>\n<li>Muscle injuries<\/li>\n<li>Lower back pain<\/li>\n<li>Achilles tendon overload<\/li>\n<li>Wrist pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many of these conditions do not result from a single isolated episode. They can develop gradually due to the repetition of sporting gestures, insufficient recovery between games, or an excessive increase in the frequency, duration, or intensity of practice.<\/p>\n<h4>Why do injuries occur in padel?<\/h4>\n<p>A sprain rarely depends on a single factor. In most cases, it results from the interaction between the demands of the modality, the person's physical capacity, the accumulated load, and the quality of recovery between sessions.<\/p>\n<p>The rapid increase in the number of games, absence of adequate warm-up, insufficient strength or endurance levels, mobility limitations, technical difficulties, and accumulated fatigue can contribute to the appearance of symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Sleep and rest play a particularly relevant role. This may include temporarily stopping the activity, reducing the load, adapting the training, maintaining physical activity compatible with symptoms, or starting a structured functional recovery programme.<\/p>\n<h4>When should I see a physiotherapist?<\/h4>\n<p>It may be advisable to have an assessment when pain persists for several days, recurs in each game, or is accompanied by swelling, loss of strength, or restricted movement.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment must also be considered when there is difficulty in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grip the racket<\/li>\n<li>Run or accelerate<\/li>\n<li>Tavern<\/li>\n<li>Change direction<\/li>\n<li>Support the affected member<\/li>\n<li>Raising the arm or performing overhead movements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The feeling of instability in the ankle, the fear of worsening symptoms, or the loss of confidence in movement are also valid reasons to seek support.<\/p>\n<p>The reappearance of pain after returning to padel may indicate that the load has increased too quickly or that certain physical capacities have not yet been fully recovered. It can begin with specific exercises and racket movements, later progressing to low-intensity technical training, short-duration games, and a progressive increase in intensity and competitive participation.<\/p>\n<p>The ability to perform an isolated movement does not necessarily mean a person is prepared to repeat it throughout an entire game. It should also consider the frequency and intensity of matches, sleep quality, recovery periods, the technical demands of the sport, and the level of movement confidence.<\/p>\n<p>It is in this context that sports physiotherapy takes on particular relevance. Beyond symptom management, it seeks to understand the specific demands of padel and progressively prepare the individual for running, stopping, changing direction, rotating the torso, and executing repeated racket movements.<\/p>\n<p>The intervention may integrate therapeutic exercise, strengthening, functional training, manual techniques, education, and progression to sport-specific tasks.
